Marigold Binding is my studio project that encompasses all aspects of my creative space. Since first learning about bookbinding from the late Carl Kurtz in 2002 and graduating from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2005, I have been on a long slow journey to grow my craft.
As a printmaker at heart, I have a tendency to gravitate toward creative methods that involve repetition and edition, however I usually try to stir up the monotony by adding unique elements to each piece. I can get distracted by other art forms because I enjoy learning new things, so I give myself a wide breadth of focus outside of bookbinding - collage, embroidery, works on paper, and graphic prints are all ways that I can express my vision. I also have a large collection of Victorian photo albums and other ephemera that you will find available for sale on this site from time to time.
Everything sold here is either handcrafted solely by me or are items that I have personally collected. My bindery is very small, as the studio is located in a corner of my dining room. I am also a full time bartender, so my actual time devoted to making art is very precious to me. The hope for creating this website is that I will be able to reach a wider audience and share my work with people who are searching for something truly unique and special.
